Destiny–The Ghost
1. Reservation as a remedy is worse than the disease. It penalizes individual merit and institutionalizes mediocrity. Would anyone like his son to be operated by a Quota surgeon? It neither helps social integration nor improves the lives of the truly oppressed and dispossessed.
2. If equality is our desired goal, then we must totally stop formation of groups based on caste, creed, minority etc., who demand exclusive rights and privileges in elections, employment, financial aid or admission in educational institutions. We must stop all forms of reservations and quotas. To talk and think in terms of ‘minorities’ and ‘communities’ should be totally stopped. We should not allow any balkanization of society on these grounds.
3. Privilege should be based on the economic criteria and not on caste, creed or minority status. It will help us to avoid unnecessary tension and dissension in the society. In place of giving privileges and making them (the under-privileged) mentally invalid, we should try to ameliorate their conditions by imparting to them a proper, invigorating and elevating education.
4. Let us build our society on the basis of freedom and equality and let us be ever alert to detect and oppose every tendency and effort by any group to claim privileges, as dirt cannot be cleaned by dirt.
5. We find that in modern times there is so much dissension between the castes. This must stop. It is useless particularly for the higher castes because the days of privileges and exclusive claims are gone. The duty of every aristocracy is to dig its own grave, the sooner the better. The more it delays, more it will fester and the worse death it will die. Therefore, it is the duty of the higher castes to work for the salvation of the rest of the people.
6. The highest society is that where every one of its members find a place of dignity and usefulness without any discrimination of high and low.
7. In religion there is no caste; caste is simply a social institution. Unfortunately today, it (caste system) panders to the greed of politicians to grab power by creating dissensions and disharmony in the society. It has become just a tool to cater to the mean-minded and self-centred political aspirations of our politicians.
8. The organization of society into groups was not in itself bad but later on when it became hereditary it lost its use and became an evil. It vitiated itself further as some enjoyed more privileges than others. When you have freedom to choose your field of activities on the basis of your taste and qualification, it makes the society healthy; but when one is tied down to one’s hereditary profession by social authority or force then it becomes an unmitigated evil.
9. One should realize that distinction of levels in office or society are for the sake of organization and efficient working and not for dominating others.
