Destiny–The Ghost
1. The action one has done cannot be destroyed until it has borne its fruit; no power in nature can stop it from yielding its result. If I do an evil act, I must suffer for it; there is no power in this universe to stop or stay it. Similarly, if I do a good act, there is no power in the universe which can stop its bearing good results. The cause must have its effect; nothing can prevent or restrain it.
2. Results of our actions may be delayed but are never lost. There is an inevitable reward for good deeds and inescapable punishment for bad ones. Everybody comes to this world in his own boat and will travel back in the same.
3. Even if you believe in a pre-determined future, what are you going to get by knowing it when you can’t change it. You will simply make your life miserable by mopping and add unnecessary anxieties and tensions because it is sure that everything in future is not going to happen as you want. Some odd things are inevitable in future not only for you but for everybody for life is a mixture of pleasure and pain. On the other hand, being constantly anxious and afraid of certain things to happen, we make them happen by the law of psychic attraction, even if it were not otherwise destined to happen.
4. He who always speculates as to what awaits him in the future, accomplishes nothing whatsoever. What you understand as true and good should be done at once. What’s good of calculating what may or may not befall in future? The span of this life is too short; can anything be accomplished in it if you go on forecasting and computing results! God is the only dispenser of results; leave it to Him to do all that.
5. This human form is the greatest chance in which we decide our fate. We are running in a huge circle and this is the point in the circle which determines the future.
6. You are the makers of your own fortune. You make yourself suffer, do good or evil deeds, and it is you who put your hands before your eyes and say it is dark. Take your hands away and you will see the light.
7. We do not look at our own faults; the eyes do not see themselves, they see the eyes of everybody else. We, human beings, are very slow to recognize our own weaknesses, our own faults, so long as we can apportion the blames to somebody else. Men, in general, lay all blames on their fellow-men, failing that on God or conjure up a ghost and say it is fate. Where is fate and who is fate? We reap what we sow. We are the makers of our own fate. None else is to be blamed or praised. The wind is blowing; those vessels whose sails are unfurled catch it and go forward on their way, but those which have their sails furled, do not catch the wind. Is that the fault of the wind?
8. God gives every bird its food, but he does not throw it into his nest.
9. What you have earned by your past actions, nobody can take it away from you. If you deserve wealth then even if it is buried in the forest, it will come to you. If you do not deserve it, you may conquer the whole world but will die of starvation.
10. We make our own destiny. His sun shines equally both for the weak and the strong. His wind blows for saint or sinner alike. He is the Lord of all, the Father of all, merciful and impartial. His infinite mercy is upon everyone, at all times and all places, under all conditions, unfailing, unswerving; it depends on us as to how we use it. Blame neither man nor God or anyone in the world. When you find yourself suffering, blame yourself and try to do better.
11. Those who blame others, and alas! their number is increasing everyday, are generally miserable and helpless; they have brought themselves to that condition through their own mistakes and blame others. But it does not serve them in anyway. Their attempt to throw the blame on others only weaken them the more. Therefore, blame none for your faults, stand on your own feet and take the whole responsibility on yourself. Since the misery, we are suffering, is of our own making, it will have to be undone by us alone. Therefore, standup, be bold and strong! Take the whole responsibility on your shoulders and know that you are the creators of your own destiny. All the strength and succour you want is within yourself. Let the dead past bury its dead; the infinite future is still before you. You must always remember that each thought, word and deed holds something in store for you, and as bad thoughts and actions are ready to spring on you like tigers, similarly there is the inspiring hope that the good thoughts and good deeds are ready with the power of a hundred thousand angels to defend you, always and forever.
12. There is no dearth of opportunities in your life to progress. If you have lost some opportunities in the past, you can still catch the train now. You can make your destiny by your own hands. Your past has made your present, your present will make your future. What you are experiencing today are the fruits of what you have done in the past. Future is still in your hands if you are cautious enough to keep your present in order.
13. All the doors are never closed for anyone however wicked he may be. Everyone is given a chance to grow further and to come out of the vicious circle of the laws of karma. No one is doomed to eternal hell. Every saint has a past and every sinner a future.
14. So by your efforts, determination and application of the power of free will, you can gradually overcome and override the forces of destiny. If you have a strong desire and firm will to work for a right cause there is no force on the earth or in the heaven which can obstruct you. All the forces of the universe will support your mission.
15. Today we fix the fate of the morrow; tomorrow we shall fix the fate of the day after, and so on. All our actions in this world will determine our future births as our present birth is the result of our past. It is quite logical that this reasoning can be pushed backwards too. If by our present deeds we shape our destiny in the future, why not to apply the same rule to the past? Then it is axiomatic that what we are now, is the effect of the whole of our past and that man is the maker of his own destiny. The evils, that are in the world today, are caused by none else but we ourselves.
16. What we are now, is the result of whatever we have been or thought in the past and whatever we shall be in the future, will be the result of what we do or think now. By taking control of the present we can not only lay a good foundation for the future but can even reduce the effects of our past actions also.
17. Difference in the world is not because of any partiality on the part of God. Then who makes it? It is us. His clouds shed its rain on all fields alike, but it is only the field that is well-cultivated which gets advantage of the shower and not the other which has not been tilled. It is not the fault of the clouds. The mercy of God is eternal and equal for all. But how can then the difference of some being born happy and some unhappy be explained? They do nothing to cause this difference in their present life but they did it in their last births and the difference is explained by their actions in the previous life. We have been placed by God exactly where we deserve. This placing is essential for our growth and for balancing the account of our Karmas. Let us give up our pride and understand that there is never a misery undeserved, there never was an evil for which we did not pave the way with our own hands.
18. An ignorant or imprudent man in committing evil deeds does not realize its consequences. He is consumed in the fire of his deeds. One who sows a wind, will reap a whirlwind.
19. Any one swallowing poison must die, as are a man’s action, so is his recompense.
20. We are like silkworms; we make the thread out of our own substance and spin the Cocoon, and in course of time are imprisoned inside. We have to undo what we have done by mistake. That is the only way. We have to cut the net which we have thrown around ourselves and the power to do so is within us. What we are, is the result of all our past, both good and evil.
21. We have the power to come out of this wheel and control it instead of being controlled by it. As our level of consciousness rises, the hold of destiny on us gets weakened. That is why spiritually enlightened persons are not afraid of destiny at all. They have the lever of the wheel of destiny in their own hands by which they can change the fixed conditions. Destiny works as their servant unlike all of us where destiny works as the master and we act as its servants. If we can bring ourselves down by our own actions, surely we have the power to raise ourselves up. We make our own heavens and can make a heaven even in the hell.
22. We cannot deny that bodies acquire certain tendencies from heredity through which a peculiar mind acts in a peculiar way. There are other tendencies particular to the soul caused by his (man’s) past actions, and a soul with a certain tendency would by the law of affinity take birth in a body suited to display that tendency.
23. Into this world one comes with all his past on him, the infinite past ushers the present, and the way in which he uses the present is going to make the future.
