Chapter 5
All the various ideas that I am a man or woman, sick or healthy, strong or weak, are all hallucinations. Always repeat, “I am He, I am He”, think of it, dream of it until all the hideous dreams, of hatred, weakness, misery and evil, do entirely vanish. Say I am Existence Absolute, Knowledge Absolute, Bliss Absolute, and like a lion break your chains and be free forever.
The greatest error is to say that you are weak, that you are a sinner, a miserable creature, that you have no power and you cannot do this or that.
Away from what makes you weak or fear? You are the only being in the Universe. What frightens you? Stand up and be free! Know that every thought and word that weakens you in the world is the only evil that exists and should be shunned. Anything that brings weakness, spiritual, mental or physical, touch it not with the toes of your feet. What can frighten you? Even if the suns come down and the moons crumble into dust and systems after systems are hurled into annihilation, what is that to you? Stand as rock for you are indestructible, you are the Self, the God of Universe. “You are He”. What frightens you, what holds you down? Only ignorance and delusion; you are the pure one, the ever blessed. You are all God.
Through His control the sky expands, through His control the air breathes, through His control the sun shines and through His control all live. He is the Reality in nature, He is the soul of your soul, nay, more, you are He, you are one with Him. Each of us is physically limited but spiritually unlimited.
If you can think of the infinite power, infinite knowledge and indomitable energy that lie within you, and if you can bring out that power, you can also become like me. We can do everything and will do everything.
The brain and muscles must develop simultaneously. Iron nerves with intelligent brain – and the whole world is at your feet.
When “Nara” – eternal manliness and “Narayana” – eternal knowledge – combine, victory is ensured. History is made by people with manliness.
Perfect sincerity, holiness, gigantic intellect and all conquering will – let only a handful of men work with these and the whole world will be revolutionized.
What makes you weep my friend? In you is all power. Summon up your all-powerful nature, O mighty one! and this whole universe will lie at your feet.
“We are all He”; not drops to fall into the ocean and be lost; each one of us is the whole infinite ocean, soul eternal and immortal. Infinite manifestation dividing itself in portions, still remains infinite; each portion is infinite.
So come up, O Lions! and shake off the delusion that you are sheep, you are the souls immortal, spirits free, blest and eternal; you are not matter, you are not bodies; matter is your servant, not you the servant of matter.
“Shake off this weakness, this faint heartedness! Thou art a hero, Vira; this is unbecoming to thee”. If we can proclaim this message to the world then all this disease, grief, sin and sorrow will vanish from the face of the earth in three days. It is man who has done all. A man like you and me can do everything; have courage!
So make your nerves strong. You have wept long enough. No more weeping, but stand on your feet and be a man!
Shake your Hanuman complex and start walking to strength, as soon as you do it, weakness will walk out of you.
Each one of you has a glorious future if you dare to believe me. Have tremendous faith in yourselves as eternal power is lodged in every soul – and you will revive the whole of India.
You are infinite, deathless, birthless. Because you are the infinite spirit, it does not befit you to be slaves of circumstances. So, Arise and awake! Stand up and fight! Die, if you must. There is none to help you. You are all the world. Who can help you?
You have well-nigh thrown the country into ruin by crying, ‘It is impossible, it is impossible’. What can human efforts not achieve?
Some of the greatest feats were accomplished by the people not smart enough to know that they were impossible.
The only way to discover the limits of possibility is to venture a little beyond them into the impossible.
I feel as if a thunderbolt strikes me on the head when I hear people dwell on negative thoughts. That sort of self-depreciating attitude is another name for disease – do you call it humility? It is vanity in disguise.
According to Swami Vivekananda, ‘All such ideas as we cannot do this, or we cannot do that, are all superstitions. Vedanta teaches man to first of all have faith in himself. It says that a man who does not believe in himself is an atheist’; so, have faith in yourselves as great convictions are the mothers of great deeds.
The history of the world is the history of a few men who had faith in themselves. That faith calls out the divinity within and you can do anything.
The history of the world has been made by a few dozen who had faith in themselves and whom you can count on your fingers, the rest were all a rabble.
When a great work is being done, when the foundation is laid or a road constructed, when superhuman energy is needed – it is one or two extraordinary men who silently and tirelessly work through a world of obstacles and difficulties. They are like lamps which burn themselves silently but shed warmth and light all-around. It is very difficult to set a wheel in motion but when the machine has been once set going, then even a boy can work it or add some impetus to it.
The perfect men, the prophets have intense faith in themselves. The world is bound to listen when they speak. What is in words, unless there is a power behind?
